First Day of Filming!

Today we began shooting the opening of our film. We decided to shoot in chronological order to make sure that we don't miss anything, and to make it easier for us to edit when we start to put together our film. We started by shooting the scene in college as it is the only time in which we can shoot this scene because of our timetables as we need to finish the filming before we break up for Easter. The beginning of the film opening is what we shot today. After walking around college we found a corridoor that fit our specification. The natural light that the corridoor provided gave us better conditions in which to film. There were certain parts of the shots that were not working well together so we strayed from our original shot list in terms of some of the camera angles we used but we stuck to the orignal idea for the opening. Lauren did the camera work for this part of the opening and Steph did the acting. A friend from outside of the group helped us by being involved in the acting part of the filming process. He was only involved in the acting and did not take part in any of the camera work or editing. We needed to use other people from outside our group as the idea that we had required three people. The filming went well and hopefully we have everything recorded for that part of the opening.

Script Idea 2

When deciding upon the script for our film we drafted a number of versions to make sure that the dialogue matched the action. This was our second draft which we preferred as we thought it was funnier and added a more prominent comic element to the film.

(Steph’s entrance) Singing- Today this could be the greatest day of our lives

(Lauren bumps into Steph) Bitch

(Picking up books, Ryan enters) Romeo, Romeo where for out tho Romeo oh… is that him? Oh God it is. Do you think he likes my new glasses?

(Canteen scene) Come on Steph! Right he’s always in here, you can do it, just go up and say hi. Come on you had a connection! You look good together! The Photoshop pictures prove it! Oh. He’s not here. I’ll just carry on practising my signature…Mrs….

(Book Scene) His skin was like a Grecian God, his eyes like an azure blue. Oh please! Don’t make me sick! Id never be that obsessed with someone and make a complete idiot of myself!

(Park conversation scene) What do I say? I’m not prepared! I forgot my notes! Right just smile and nod smile and nod. What my house! Whoo! Get in Steph! Hi five!

(Make-up scene) Guys these days just seem to go for the tangy cheese dorito look. I mean it cant be that hard to do. Mascara. Right now this could be dangerous! Just blink and curl. I don’t think its supposed to go on my eyelids! Maybe you wont be able to see it with my glasses on. Nope still crap I need a makeup wipe!

(Knock on the door) That must be the hairdresser. Good job she could come at such short notice. It cost me more but he’s so worth it!

(Window scene) NO! He’s here early! Stupid bloody hairdresser! Why didn’t she get some proper qualifications, like time keeping or something!

(Stairs) Where the hell are my notes?! What do I say? Hey? Hello? Hi?

(Door scene) Is he… is he checking me out?! Oh God. This was not in my notes!

Voice Over Script

Humming.. (Lauren walks) “Great, as if my day couldn’t get any better.

(Bumps into Steph) “Stupid bitch, these files were in alphabetical order, how long will that take me to fix?! I mean last time…”

(Starts picking up files) “Is that him? Oh god, it is! Would it be too late to fix my hair? Are my glasses on straight? Do I say thanks or? Too late...”

(Park) “He wants my help. I’m surprised he even knows I exist, never mind knowing my name. Help with coursework, right. Come round in an hour, I’ll have to start getting ready now does he know how long it takes a girl?! Right, so if I wear that dress and...Oh, right bye.”

(Make-up) “Right, so it’s foundation first right? Whatever, just slap it on it can’t be that hard. Mascara, right now this could be dangerous, just blink and curl..I don’t think its supposed to go on my eyelids, you might not see it with my glasses on. Hmm, nope still looks crap. Make-up wipe.”

(Make-up 2) “Blusher, how much is too much? Definitely too much! Maybe if I wipe it...That’ll do. Lipstick. Wow that’s pink! It might look better if I..Nope still crap. Make-upwipe.”

(Doorbell rings) "What? Are you serious?! I'm not even ready, how can he be early! It might not be him...okay, it's him. Right, hairs okay. Now answer the door. Don't fall don't fall...

(Answer’s door) “Hey! Oh you’ve got to be kidding me…”

Soundtrack Ideas

When coming up with ideas for our film we wanted to have a soundtrack that had a quick

tempo and reflected the characters mood. The songs we have selected are similar in that they have a soft tone but are still upbeat. The songs we have selected are Owl City's Fireflies without the lyrics as we like beat and the instruments used. the Skins opening is similar as the story its genre that it is based on is similar to ours. We have also based our soundtrack on 30 seconds to mars acoustic version of The Story as we like the sound of the guitar he uses and we think a similar sounding thing would work well in our soundtrack .

Location Ideas

When deciding about the location that we would use for the film opening, we decided to film part of it in a park. To make sure that the location fit our specification we went on a reckie which would provide us with an ideas for the various locations for our film. We found a number of different park which had different aspects that we thought would be effective in our film.

Costume Ideas

We wanted some of the stereostypes of a Geek to be obvious in her apperance. Therefore we decided that big glasses should be worn by Steph to confine to the stereotype. Her clothes will be plain so that the main empahsis is on her glasses. As steph has long hair we wanted to use this as a sort of shield that the character uses to hides behind.

Canteen Scene Inspiration

To make the most of the college surroundings we have decided to use the canteen as another location to film. We based this idea on two film clips of a typical, teenage love story. We used scenes from both Mean Girls and She's The Man. These clips represent the streotypes we wanted to represent in our film opening and also relate to our opening as they are quite commical.
During the Mean Girls clip it gives a clear indication of the stereotypes within high school. It is the canteen scene at the beggining of the film where a new girl tries to get to grips with the different dynamics within her new school. We think that this an interesting clip on which to base our intial ideas on as it clearly shows the seperate groups in a high school setting. The character that we thinking of will not be new to the school but she will have the same difficulties in trying to figure out the social groups and which one she belongs to. We have decided to base part of our film opening around the college canteen environment and we thought that the Mean girls clip was helpful in planning our ideas as it is based around the same age group and has a similar intended audience.
